Russia Today Anchor Resigns On Air over Ukraine

Another, second, co-anchor criticizes Russia over Ukraine crisis but is staying with RT

Russia Today anchor Liz Wahl, an American, resigned on air, saying she could no longer be "part of a network that whitewashes the actions of Putin." Wahl, who describes herself as "Filipina-Hungarian-American," mentioned her grandparents flight from Hungary during the 1956 revolution, saying they were fleeing the troops of the USSR. According to David Irving, historian, the Hungarian Revolution started off as a rebellion of the people against Jews who were running the Hungarian government. Wahl said nothing about that.

Earlier this week Russia Today anchor Abby Martin, who seems to be American, criticized "Russia's military occupation of Crimea" on the network. She has no plans to leave Russia Today, which she says is tolerant of dissenting voices. She admitted she didn't know much about Ukraine. Russia Today wants her to go to Crimea to see for herself, but Martin has declined what seems to be not only a golden opportunity, but her duty as a journalist commenting on the situation to get first-hand information if the opportunity presents itself.

Mike Adams, Natural News editor, writes today that "I have been a guest on the network [Russia Today] a few times but stopped over six months ago for essentially the same reasons Liz Wahl cited in her own resignation: RT has an editorial slant designed to protect the interests of Russia, not the United States of America."

In response to questions from an unfriendly NationalJournal writer, RT's Moscow office responded to questions about its anchor dust-up, saying they respect Ms. Martin's views and that there will be no reprisals against her. They stated that they will continue to provide the "most comprehensive picture of events" in Ukraine. Further, "RT's point of view is based on the facts and developments on the ground, and we will stick to that as the news cycle unfolds," wrote RT in the NationalJournal question and RT answer email exchange.
