Labor Day Weekend Eat-Ins Support Healthy Local School Lunches

Brigham Young University - Hawaii on Saturday and Punahou School on Monday include screening of Food Inc. and discussion

Time for Lunch, Slow Food's campaign in support of fresh, wholesome, local school lunches, is sponsoring a potluck lunch this Labor Day weekend. All are invited. See what local elementary schools and BYU-Hawaii are doing with school gardens and food programs.

Bring a picnic blanket and a home-cooked dish to share. In keeping with the eco-friendly nature of the event, bring your own reusable plates, forks and cups.

BYU-Hawaii Eat-In, Laie, Oahu, Saturday, September 5:
Potluck from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the BYU-Hawai’i cafeteria lawn, Laie. A free screening of Food Inc. will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the BYU-Hawaii auditorium. Due to some graphic factory farming scenes, this film may not be appropriate for young children under the age of 12. Parental discretion is advised.

For families attending the screening, a keiki-friendly film and activity will be provided nearby. Panelists will include Pamela Boyar, Hale'iwa Farmers' Market founder and coordinator; Dexter Kishida, Kokua Hawai'i Foundation school food coordinator; Ryan Costello, founder & owner of Land of Organic; Dean Okimoto, Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation president and owner of Nalo Farms; and others.
