Aloha,

Every election, people ask me for suggestions. If you are interested, please read on. If you already have your preferences, please forgive me for stating my choices. I will comment only on the top Democrat races and OHA.

Governor: I support David Ige [D].   Gov. Abercrombie met with environment leaders before his [2010] election and made some solemn promises. Within weeks, those promises to us proved to be lies. I hold him almost completely responsible for turning around the Land Use Commission and causing the loss of both the Koa Ridge farmland and the Ho’opili farmland. Combined, these lands currently provide 45% of all the fresh fruits and vegetables grown on O’ahu for the local market.

In this year’s election, David Ige has one-tenth the money Abercrombie has because he has no support from developers and development unions. He thinks like a local guy who dearly loves Hawai’i and its people. He’s leading in the polls because he truly is “the people’s candidate.”

Lt. Governor: I support Clayton Hee [D].   Clayton joined our case to save the Ho’opili farmland as an intervenor at the Land Use Commission, and he is responsible for many efforts in the Legislature that have saved farmland, preserved the North Shore, and Kept the Country Country. He also has been the go-to man for native Hawaiian needs.

Senator: I support Colleen Hanabusa [D].   This was a difficult choice until I heard that Brian Schatz had hired as his Chief of Staff Andy Weiner, the engineer of PRP’s disgraceful destruction of Ben Cayetano’s campaign [in 2012 for Honolulu mayor]. Hiring someone so lacking in principles shows an absence in moral consciousness that we need in our Senator.

OHA At Large: I support two of the new faces: Harvey McInerny and Landen Paikai [both nonpartisan for nonpartisan office]. OHA needs to be opened up a bit, and these two would offer a fresh breath.
